The Four Levels of Learning

A mental model that maps the journey from complete ignorance to automatic mastery in any skill or area of knowledge. This framework helps you understand where you are in the learning process and what's required to progress to unconscious competence—where performance becomes automatic and effortless.

What this skill walks you through

  2. Components / Steps

  5. Example: A baby doesn't know shoes need to be tied and isn't aware of this gap
  6. You know what needs to be done, but you can't do it yet
  7. Aware of your lack of ability
  8. Example: A two-year-old knows their shoe needs tying, puts the shoe out for mom or dad, but cannot tie it themselves
